Wonderfully Woman
Denise is excited to share with you a new collection of works that mark a change in direction for her practice. The works explore the female figure through colourful, evocative collage, and use painted paper, pencil and oil stick to build form and narrative.
In this collection, Denise explores the complex relationship women have with their bodies, using exaggerated shape and distorted line as both a nod to the pressure put upon women to confirm to societies expectations, but also as a celebration of the strength and beauty of the female form.
The works are a joyful celebration of femininity. Denise hopes that in seeing these works, woman will feel empowered and see parts of themselves reflected back. These works are produced from a combination of life drawing, photographs and memory.
‘I wanted to make work that would challenge me and put fun and play at the forefront of my practice. To create an environment where I wouldn’t necessarily know what the outcome would be and where there I could make and embrace mistakes as part of the ‘finished’ piece.
This collection has reconnected me with the joy of creating and reminded me that I am, at heart, a colourist’
